Items to Bring to Your Pre-Op Clearance Appointment

  • Bring a copy or have your Cardiologist fax over any cardiac stress test performed within the past year
  • Most recent medical records from a physician that you are currently receiving care from for a medical condition
  • Medication and Supplement List
  • MD List
  • Insurance Card(s)
  • Co-pay and or Deductible payment

To Keep In Mind…

In order to medically clear you for surgery you will need to complete some tests including blood work, EKG, chest Xray, and urinalysis. These will be arranged by our office for you to do at the hospital. You will be advised where to go for them when you schedule your pre-op appointment.

  • If you have one or more risk factors for heart disease (which includes diabetes, high blood pressure, cigarette use, elevated cholesterol, age over 55); if you had coronary intervention (stent placement); bypass surgery; a heart attack; or if you currently have angina, our Internist may request that you undergo a cardiac stress test prior to your surgery.
  • If you are an out of town patient that meets the above cardiac criteria, and you will be seeing our Internist only one day before surgery, it may be difficult to schedule a stress test in such a short period of time. This may result in the postponement/cancellation of your surgery. However, to avoid this it is advisable that you schedule a cardiac stress test in your home town and have these results faxed to our office or bring them with you on the day of your appointment.
  • If you are an out of town patient that does not currently have a personal physician and you have not had a physical examination in several years, it is advisable that you schedule your pre-operative appointment 2 days in advance of your surgery date in order to coordinate any further testing that may be recommended by our physicians. This will prevent last minute surgery postponement/cancellations.
